"Horn Of Africa Aid and Rehabilitation Action Network (HAARAN)!" Helping the displaced reach a better life.

Horn of Africa Aid and Rehabilitation Action Network (HAARAN) is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization headquartered in Lewiston, Maine, serving the needs of the disabled and the impoverished throughout the Horn of Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan and Djibouti, as well as immigrants from these countries who reside in the United States of America. The Founding President and chief spokesperson on all matters related to current and projected work in the Horn of Africa is Abdi Matan.

HAARAN volunteers are helping to bring aid and rehabilitation, education, and capacity building to the most disadvantaged among the mothers, children, youth, and elderly who are disabled, poor, sick, malnourished, and especially those touched by the perils of cross-border immigration, war, civil strife, and unending drought. Large parts of the Horn have had less than 75% of normal rainfall this year, having already endured a series of severe droughts.

Our charitable and educational purposes are to develop the capacity of refugees, immigrants, and internally displaced persons set back by adversity or disability, and their caregivers, families, clans, and communities to live lives that are meaningful, productive and integrated into the wider society. We believe that there is potential in every life and it should be given a chance at all possible costs.
